Unis Men's Collection for Autumn/Winter 2011

Highsnob peeps the new Unis collection for Autumn 2011. “A fine selection of suits, knitwear, chinos and casual wear makes up the line from New York. Easy to wear, some great colors, while being overall muted, we really like the latest offering from designer Eunice Lee.” Dig in.

Selectism - UNIS Autumn 2010 Collection

GQ gets a first look at the forthcoming Autumn 2010 collection from NY’s UNIS line. A good mix of men’s garments make up the collection which plays it relatively safe amongst the classic and contemporary plays. No piece is overdone. Dig in.

Unis ‘Adam’ Light Pink Shirt

Selectism - unis-adam-shirt-01

To paraphrase R.Kelly, we don’t see nothing wrong with a little light pink shirting. Unis is one of those brands that are finally getting the credit they deserve and pieces like this are a good example why. To call it simple would be doing it a disservice but it’s a well made piece in a colour that’ll suit a variety of skin tones. And it’s on sale. (Unis)

UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Selectism - UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 Looks

Cqc reminds us to review the UNIS Spring/Summer 2010 collection. “Inspired by and designed for the contemporary downtown man, UNIS evokes classic American sportswear. Urbane while easy, elegant without affect, Lee’s understated designs don’t ask for attention, rather they suit the man. Produced and manufactured entirely in its home of New York City, UNIS is just the result of a real relationship between designer, craftsmen, and locale..”

Beginning on April 15, 2010, Brooklyn’s Sit and Read Furniture will present a limited selection of housewares at New York’s Unis. For the Nolita shop, Sit and Read’s Kyle Garner has handpicked a selection of vintage chairs and reupholstered them in remnant fabrics from Unis’ Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The pieces are, understandably, limited. As the relationship progresses, Sit and Read will continue to offer changing pieces at the Unis Flagship. (via Curated).

Selectism Q&A | Manufacturing in New York

selectism - Selectism Q&A | Manufacturing in New York

Undoubtedly, the recent and regularly publicized trend for Americana has created new reverence for locally made and manufactured garments. A number of brands following that notion regularly escape our full attention. To that end, Cary Randolph Fuller spent a bit of time chatting with a few of the folks in New York dedicated to Big Apple production.

The purpose of the Q&A is two fold – one, to give voice to smaller brands and two, investigate the process they go through as emerging entities. A third reason behind our Q&A was to get a little feminine perspective on Selectism. We’re male heavy, and though the subject might not be directly geared to the lady, Cary’s concern and interest in menswear differs from ours.

The focus here might be New York and the City might have garment trade advantages over other locales, however there are universal lessons that may be useful/inspiring to people across the United States.

What follows is a discussion with Adele Berne and Mike Kuhle of Epaulet, Eunis Lee, Mordechai Rubinstein, and Roy Dank. Above is an example from Roy Dank’s The Wurst Editions. Pieces from the others are peppered throughout the Q&A.

Selectism - UNIS Tom Shirts

NYC’s UNIS comes through with another solid shirt which pulls from both the classic dress and work shirt styles. Elbow patch reinforces one arm (we would have preferred two). A buttonless collar and contrasting color fabrics on the plackets finish these nicely. Many color options to choose from.

UNIS Elliot Work Shirts

Selectism - UNIS Elliot Work Shirts

The Elliot is UNIS’ answer to the “super work shirt.” Retailing at 295$US, it comes in higher than most shirt but you’re paying for a rugged built button-up with a suede elbow patch, two chest pockets, and a garment that doubles as a jacket. UNIS NYC. Explore their goods.

The
center front placket detailing is just as sophisticated as it gets.  But
this shirt/jacket is durable and rugged to be sure.  The detail of a sueded
elbow patch is one of my favorite features on the Elliot.  It also has two
chest pockets, with intricate pieces sewn onto the bias.

UNIS Waxed Peacoat

Selectism - UNIS Waxed Peacoat

Here is a nice seasonal transition piece for those not so cold, not so warm days. NY’s UNIS breaks out a waxed military inspired peacoat to save the day. Finished in olive green, the cut is “simple” and clean for a natural fit. Works well with a man tote, if you please.
