The “Designed By” Urban Outfitters initiative is an on-going collection of collaborative works for the retail shops. While more focused on the women’s side of fashion, the gents get their share of works. Beyond the expected works with Pendleton, Lark & Wolf (with Steven Alan) gets a nice refresh and we see the appearance of J. Press, Virgin Poets Society (by Trovata), the Brothers Bray, and many others. The “Designed By” offering will span the full year 2011 starting in April (for the guys).

Canadian rugby kings Barbarian have cooked up a special batch of product for Urban Outfitters. Included, logically, in the package is Barbarian’s signature rugby shirt. This incarnation is dressed in gray and navy with pink and white accent pinstripes. The shirt is complemented in the collection by a henley hooded sweatshirt and two cardigans.

Sports casual heritage.

Urban Outfitters has the US exclusive on the classic 60/40 Short Parka by legendary outwear company Sierra Designs. Four colors – brown, orange, green, blue – all with contrast tan lining. For the reissue, UO has had the jacket cut in a shorter, slimmer pattern, but all the hallmarks of the original remain in tact. Get it here.

In news that’s caused sections of the menswear blogworld to spontaneously combust, J.Press have teamed up Urban Outfitters. UO, best known for their line in awful vintage and poorly edited menswear, have been on a heritage ‘tip’ lately – teaming up with the likes of Duluth Pack before this collab dropped. At this rate, Nigel Cabourn will be collaborating with Debenhams. Oh wait.

While Urban Outfitters calls their wonderful “O Christmas Tree” Book a preview for Holiday 2010, it is more a celebration around the Christmas holiday tree. Inside this book you’ll find an assortment of tree shots from Alec Soth – all photographed in Minnesota. Here’s a quick look.

NYC’s Arrow shirt line will be heading into Urban Outfitters this November as part of a six-piece exclusive line for the retail chain. “Each piece uses the authentic fabrics, cut, and colors of the original” button-down shirts. One thing that UO does well is follow and place well trended looks into their stores. We have no doubt these will not only look great but also have strong sell through.

Now that Summer is here you may find yourself on a dedicated hike. These bags from Duluth for UO could be your best bet. Minnesota’s Duluth has worked with Urban Outfitters on some special packs. “Urban Outfitters has collaborated with the Minnesota-based company Duluth, known for creating durable work wear and accessories since 1882. The Duluth Hiking Pack comes in two colors, blue and red with custom blond leather details.”

R29 talks up the new Pendleton for Urban Outfitter Navajo inspired blankets. “Couldn’t stomach the $510 price-tag on the Pendleton Meets Opening Ceremony blankets? Urban Outfittershas got the remedy, with a line of Pendleton-printed home goods that’s priced at a much more palatable $48 for towels and $118 for blankets. Some new specials at Urban Outfitters in the form of denim from the Won Hundred line. “Nikolaj [of Won Hundred] was approached by Urban Outfitters buying director Lee Grace to submit a jean both specific and exclusive to Urban Outfitters that would exemplify the philosophy and aesthetic of Won Hundred whilst incorporating the Urban Outfitters look and feel. “The jeans made for Urban was one model in 3 simple washes, its called Dean and is the tightest of the 3 we have in our jeans range, made only for the Urban Outfitters customer’.”

Oh, Mr. Williams, how do you scoop the world of American heritage? ACL gets caught showing their love for Filson and Urban Outfitter’s continued ability to channel the power of the now with this collection of bags collaborating the brand and store nicely. “The partnership consists of a limited run of canvas bags that were made especially for Urban Outfitters in the special color ways. Launching in mid-April in selected cities (New York, LA, etc.) the special styles will be priced at $205 for the small duffel and $129 for the zipper tote.” Very well done.
