Top Deck 01 Top Deck Photography Book by Pearson Howe and Robson Scott

A Limited edition publication we’d recommend getting your hands on.

Photography by James Pearson-Howes (British Folk, Dazed, i-D, …) and Will Robson-Scott (The Independent, Mixmag, Time Out), Top Deck is for anyone who spends their daily commute on London buses will feel the familiarity of the world outside those smudged windows. Spot on design from Utile and Mother London with foreward from The Guardian’s Justin Quirk.

“Top Deck, is a series of images made over the course of two years on the top decks of east London buses giving a new a perspective on the monotony of the every day commute. The work will result in a newspaper publication and a two-week show at renowned advertising agency, Mother.”

Selectism - Utile-studio-visit-01

We’ve been seeing a lot of Utile later, but not much about the folks behind the time. We managed to snag a look at their studio to see how they work, what they’re working on and perv over some handsome furniture. We’ve even managed to get a shot of one of the founders who we’d call elusive if we were a tabloid newspaper.

As always, see more after the leap.

utile blazer 01 Utile Chipperfield Blazer

Another lesson in simplicity from Utile Clothing. The Chipperfield Blazer is as bare-bones as it gets. If you’re looking for a jacket that comes with an exhaustive list of details look away now. Navy english cotton twill, corozo nut buttons, 2 external pockets and 1 internal. That’s about it. Smart, isn’t it?

Utile Sion Raincoat

Another addition to the compact range at Utile. On offer this time is a smart and simple raincoat. The Sion is made of a thick cavalry tweed, Made in England and currently available in olive. We like the hidden front buttons which give the coat a streamlined front and removes any unnecessary fuss.

Utile Canvas Tote Bag

British label Utile have added this smart and simple tote to their compact line of ‘understated’ garments. Cotton canvas body, contrast base, leather handles and a rather nice hickory lining, a perfect hit of colour without too much commitment.

Utile, the new clothing label from some of the folks who work on brands like Albam and Folk, have started up the Utile traits series. Focusing on notable folks in the menswear industry, it kicks off with Jason Jules, a man you’ve probably seen in the last Hideout lookbook (and many, many more editorials and features that are floating around the web).
