The Dehen 1920 line from Portland, OR is a fourth generation family business focused in on the classic varsity and ivy league sportswear of decades past. Re-launched for Autumn 2011, the Dehen line showcases their latest collection of well built jackets and crews – all featuring the same details and stitch work found on their vintage garments. Another addition to their recent collaborations, Unionmade works over varsity vest with Golden Bear. The garment is made of the same material as the jacket but includes “cowhide trim at the shoulders, slash pockets and at the hanger loop.” This jacket has a snap front closure that is made with antique brass. The piece is offered in navy and carmel. Made in the U.S.A.

Remember that UftD varsity blazer they released a while back? They’re at it again.  This time it comes in black and beige and looks bawse. We’re gonna stay away from hyperbole this time and just say that this is the greatest varsity blazer in the history of varsity blazers. (ASOS)

The Flathead “Native Smoke” Varsity Jacket shows us the Japanese take on an American classic. The jacket’s outer shell is “Melton wool” and is crafted on older shuttle looms in Japan. The inner lining is made in a “Rayon Herringbone Till Lining” style. The classic traditional embroidery style, “Sagara”, is used on the front and back of the jacket. I had the chance to try on the jacket and it’s an warm piece that feels amazing on. The slim fit and shorter vertical length make it a true Flathead garment. This timeless piece will last a lifetime. The varsity love continues with this Lounge Lizard version. While we partly like it because it’s tainted with that Japanese connection, we mainly like it because of the extra zips. Erroneous though they may be, they do look nice – which helps in our shallow quest of just wanting to look good, heritage authenticity be damned. (Mindtrive)

Yep, we’re still recommending varsities – we really don’t care whether someone else says they’re out or not – as long they still look good, we’ll keep posting them. And this one does look good. It looks like one for the slimmer fellow, mind, but good nonetheless. In the words of a million awful rappers,  it’s perfect to get your ’swag’n on’. We featured this jacket back in the day (word to Ahmad) and now it’s finally out in stores. We know we’re supposed to be ‘over’ varsity jackets but, as anyone who’s noticed our desert boot obsession, when we like something we like it for more than a season. Furthermore, this is more a varsity blazer as opposed to a varsity jacket, which makes the world of difference. (Coggles)

This varsity was our favourite piece from People’s Market’s AW09 collection and now it’s in stores, we can take a closer look. Before we get into all that, we have to say something about this model.

Like most ASOS models, there’s something annoying about this guy, although we can’t point out exactly what that is. Maybe it’s the hat. Maybe it’s his face. Whatever it is, don’t let it put you off the actual piece. Beware that People’s Market fits tight, so you’ll probably be best off sizing up if you want a slim instead of skinny fit. (ASOS)

Feiyue, known for their sneaker goods, tests the waters beyond footwear with two varsity jackets – in black and blue/white. Not much can be said about them that you do not already know and you probably already own a varsity, but consider this one on your next collegiate binge.

We received a quick preview of a letterman jacket from a new sportswear line of 50’s inspired looks – Whitesville. There is not much information we can give on the line at this time, but they are coming from a well known Japanese denim house and should be available outside of Japan. More to come. We promise.
