Balmain Python Vest

21 February 2012, 19.00 | Posted in Fashion | No comments »

python 1 Balmain Python Vest
Any dude in a python vest is doing some serious dick-wagging, so imagine the pendulum’s arc on the man rocking a $10,000 python vest. Staff favorite Balmain invites you to conjure this image with an ashy, fancy and very intense vest made from what must have been one hell of a snake. If you can conjure the $10,222 to buy it, then by all means proceed.

Woolrich John Rich & Bros. – Pre Autumn/Winter 2012

Woolrich John Rich & Bros - Pre Autumn/Winter 2012

The Woolrich John Rich & Bros. collection gives us a mighty jump on their forthcoming pre-Autumn/Winter 2012 collection. Talk about being early to market – we don’t mind. The “Makes and Tradesmen” collection is a reference to the “makers,” like John Rich himself, who opened the door in Pennsylvania to manufacturing. “Tradesmen” thanks those in careers like carpentry, shoemaking, tailoring that kept the men properly clothed. Fans fo the John Rich & Bros. collection will find further re-boots of classic forms including conductor vests and chore jackets that use “a strong fall palette of muted colors mixed with tweed, suede, canvas and twill.” Fabrication is the game here from Woolrich John Rich & Bros for Autumn 2011.

nigel cabourn eddie bauer vests 1 Nigel Cabourn for Eddie Bauer Canadian Vests

Way back in January, we previewed the Nigel Cabourne work for Eddie Bauer. We mentioned it looked to be an EU exclusive and this still remains. END has stock on two excellent “Canadian Vests” from the collection. Avaialble in orange check and midnight blue, the vests were originally designed for the military but today, flipped in the way only Cabourn can: Harris Tweed hits, square quilting with calf skin shoulders.

Ortega Chimayo Vests

Ortega Chimayo Vests

While Pendleton helped reinvigorate the Native American inspired print, Japan has been worshipping at a similar pattern church – the Chimayo, a style of weaving specific to the New Mexico town of the same name, for many years now. A holy grail item for Vintage heads, early examples in the form of Jackets, vests and wallets from such brands as Trujillo, Ganscraft and Fred Harvey fetch enourmous prices. Ortega, founded in the early 1900s still continues its loom work today. Tokyo’s Hummingbird Hills is one of the few stockists to carry these unique items, their latest drop is an impressive range of colourful wool vests featuring the distinctive diamond pattern. Garbstore Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - Garbstore Spring/Summer 2010

The fifth collection from Garbstore, “The East Empire Service Company,” draws inspiration from the working folks behind the British Empire. These include rail workers in India, waiters in Hong Kong, and more. Essentially, the line is an exploration of the civilian uniform.

To present the collection, Canadian Folk band “The Mighty Low” were photographed in their east London rehearsal space and illustrated by Ewen Brown. The illustrations will form the album book for their forthcoming record.

A sampling of Brown’s illustrations, and the Garbstore Spring/Summer 2010 collection, after the jump.

Selectism - Steven Alan Flannel Down Vests

These Canadian made flannel vests from Steven Alan “feature goose down for warmth and a contrast flannel lining for comfort.” The vests are reserved in look but feature flannels that remind us of granddad smoking a pipe next to a pile of fire wood up in Maine. I think that’s the point. Available now from Steven Alan.
