Selectism - Aquarama Reversible Vests for Autumn/Winter 2010

With a one-off heatwave coming to the Northeast tomorrow, why not discuss down vests for winter? Porvacacao has these from Aquarama. “The fully reversible check and plain vests are made from a 100% nylon outer with 80% goose down and 20% feather plumage filling. Available in red and green colourway, with patch pockets on the sides and buttoned chest pocket for wallet and keys, these puffy vests are just right for that season transition.”

Garbstore Spring/Summer 2010

selectism - Garbstore Spring/Summer 2010

The fifth collection from Garbstore, “The East Empire Service Company,” draws inspiration from the working folks behind the British Empire. These include rail workers in India, waiters in Hong Kong, and more. Essentially, the line is an exploration of the civilian uniform.

To present the collection, Canadian Folk band “The Mighty Low” were photographed in their east London rehearsal space and illustrated by Ewen Brown. The illustrations will form the album book for their forthcoming record.

A sampling of Brown’s illustrations, and the Garbstore Spring/Summer 2010 collection, after the jump.

Selectism - Steven Alan Flannel Down Vests

These Canadian made flannel vests from Steven Alan “feature goose down for warmth and a contrast flannel lining for comfort.” The vests are reserved in look but feature flannels that remind us of granddad smoking a pipe next to a pile of fire wood up in Maine. I think that’s the point. Available now from Steven Alan.

lad musician rafa vest 00 Lad Musician Rafa Vests

Japan’s Lad Musician Rafa Vests are special. Some would use them for laying your lazy hand into the high rise pockets rather than in your trousers. Others prefer the easy storage in the bulbs of the vest. We think they’re simply something different.

coming soon work vests 00 Coming Soon Cut Work Vests

Yohi Yamamoto’s Coming Soon line still confuses people when we mention it, but we’ll all need to get over it. The wears are properly fashioned for those looking for a more relaxed “youthful” vibe. Take these two work vests from Coming Soon – one in chambray and the other in herringbone. One is perfect for the farmhand, while the other is tailored for the Brandon Flowers in all of us. Either way, they’re quality from the Yamamoto house. (blackbird)
