Watch | Jason Gregory of MAKR – Grain and Gram

07 February 2012, 16.00 | Posted in Accessories, Design, Fashion, videos | No comments »
http://www.vimeo.com/36128995

Hats off to Grain & Gram for this great little video offering a look at the workings of accessories favourites MAKR. Founder Jason Gregory skates, sews and sketches his way through the film and, with the help of his bearded associates, creates those totes, wallets and keyfobs we love so much. All crafted in their Florida studio – unsurprisingly one of those perfect spaces that makes you go ‘ooohhh’ –  this is a behind the scenes look at a small company making big waves. An interview also accompanies the film, we recommend you check it out.

More from MAKR in our archives.

Joseph Abboud, HMX Group president and chief creative officer, has created a 7 piece Autumn/Winter capsule collection to celebrate 125 years of Hart Schaffner Marx. Made in America menswear, still manufacturing out of their Illinois factory, Joseph comments; “I think when…[the suits] are cut by hand, the touch, the feel of the fabric is so important. How you sew the shoulder, the softness of the chest… All of those go into a great quality product. And Hart Schaffner Marx, for 125 years, have been doing it the best way they know how.”

Close up and Private pay homage to Chubby Checker. If Sergei Sviatchenko wants to do the twist, who are we to stop him? If you’re watching this at work, go ahead, do a little foot shuffle under your desk.

A little bit of video action from the versatile Mr Slimane; “Commonwealth Projects is pleased to present this documentation of Hedi Slimane’s California Song. The self-commissioned video project was filmed over the course of the exhibition’s opening week. It includes footage of the opening night, No Age’s rehearsal for their performance, billboards featuring Hedi’s photographs across LA, and the artwork in the show.”

Watch | Mister Freedom – L’hirondelle du Faubourg

16 January 2012, 14.30 | Posted in Fashion, videos | 1 comment »
http://www.vimeo.com/32870639

Mister Freedom revisits Paris of the 1900s with this nice little video showcasing pieces from their current collection.  Comedic fisticuffs and suspicious lurking, the Apaches may cut ya as soon as look at ya but there’ll do it dressed in their finest. As ever, MF have really done their homework when it comes  to this collection, repros can be serious business but it’s nice to see a brand willing to keep things a bit light-hearted.

Video | Stringer Bell talks London Olympics 2012

London 2012 have asked part time Baltimore badman and part time East End tortured detective Idris Stringer Luther Elba to talk a little about his home town of Hackney and the arrival of the Olympic games.

The film’s a bit slapdash which is kind of why we like it. Idris does his best to get you all excited about the Olympics, possibly because in typical London fashion, a lot of cynicism is flying about with this event and everyone’s scared of being trampled by white elephants or something to that effect. Click on and see if this sparks a bit of enthusiam.

Nowness | Louis Vuitton’s New Timekeeper

Louis Vuitton’s New Timekeeper on Nowness.com.

Nowness gives a nice behind the scenes look at the French luxury brand’s business in watch making, which they take like all things, very serious.

“Louis Vuitton unveils the inner workings of its new 18-karat white gold timepiece, the Tambour Minute Repeater, a collaboration with Swiss master horologists La Fabrique du Temps. True to the brand’s renown for handcrafted luxury travel accessories, Louis Vuitton’s Tambour employs complex mechanics to display one time while being able, upon request, to chime an alternative ‘home’ time.”

Video | Olubiyi for Coggles Street Style Films

http://www.vimeo.com/33339372

Coggles have been snapping the good folk of London for some time now. While street style blogs currently take up *27% of the internet, it’s nice to see a little more in-depth investigation into the more stylish subjects.

With that in mind the store set about picking their favourites for a series of skillfully shot films. We’re introduced to the well dressed Olubiyi, a student at Central St Martins whose work is heavily influenced by his hero Jean-Michel Basquiat. Film director Terry Hall catches the man at work.

Video | A History of the Sky

Notcot lets us know about this video, which showcases a mosaic look at the sky over the course of a year. Here’s how Ken Murphy, the creator of the video did it. “A camera installed on the roof of the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco captured an image of the sky every 10 seconds. From these images, I created a mosaic of time-lapse movies, each showing a single day. The days are arranged in chronological order. My intent was to reveal the patterns of light and weather over the course of a year.”
