1950’s Vintage Spring Court Sneakers

Selectism - 1950's Vintage Spring Court Boxes

Just to prove to you that good things rarely change, here’s a look at some deadstock Spring Court tennis trainer boxes from the 1950’s. Not that much different than what we see today except those boxes have gone through some work. Also, note the 3 hole design (after the jump) as opposed to the current 4 hole. We personally prefer the old packaging as well. It shows a period when graphic design was still young. A great look at some of our favorite sneakers as they were back in the day. We have said it before – it’s all about the airsole in the Spring Court trainers.

John Bull Old Atheltic Zip-Ups

Selectism - John Bull Old Atheltic Zip-Ups

When Kenji mentions a Japanese brand, I tend to listen. He knows Tokyo and the constantly evolving street scene.  Find him out on the daily, and he’ll likely have on an understated piece of apparel procured down some small alley in Tokyo. Of late, we have been discussing the John Bull boutique which happens to be Kenji approved. I am sure he would approved of these classic inspired “Old Atheltic” Zip-up hoodies. The wash finish – available in navy, grey, and natural – is hand processed giving it a natural inconsistent feel between garments. More from John Bull soon…

UPDATE: John Bull uses Loopwheeler looms to produce these zip-ups. In nerd terms, it means low run, super soft, unique, hand loomed goodness.

Heavy Tweed pulls off their usual discovery with this recent post on a variety of outdoor gear lines from the Brooks Brothers family. “One thing that fascinates me is that Brooks didn’t only sell suits and casual wear, but also sold a variety of outdoors wear… Over the years the American clothier, Brooks Brothers, produced a number of iconic labels such as Brookscloth, Brooksweave, Brooksflannel, Brookstweed, and as the page below shows, ‘Brooksweather.’”

If you’ve hopped on the patent shoe bandwagon then you may be left wanting even more items that match the high shine of your shoes. Aside from a belt, the best item to match to your shoes is your watch. This vintage Omega watch should fulfil any patent needs the wearer might have, with the subdued face making sure it isn’t pimpishly (yes, that is a word) flamboyant. Get it from ASOS.

Suzan Fellman Vintage Scarf Furniture Collection

selectism - Suzan Fellman Vintage Scarf Furniture Collection

There is a long standing tradition of using period garments to dress furniture. During the 1920s (and a bit beyond), collectors of the Colonial Revival often sought dresses to use as authentic coverings. Though not directly related to this trend, Suzan Fellman takes vintage scarfs as and employs them to drive the visual treatment of her SF collection. Dior, Chanel, no one in high fashion is safe from Fellman’s scissors. Theresult is a series of chairs with classic patterning and sometimes bold, unexpected branding.

1890’s Levi Vintage 201 on eBay

Selectism - 1890's Levi Vintage 201 on eBay

Something popped up on eBay last week that is catching the attention of those ultra-vintage hunters worldwide. A pair of 1890’s Levi 201’s were found in the Mojave Desert in Californian. This find find in itself is not a common one but what is making this find a biggie is the condition of the denim jeans themselves. From the auction, "They are covered in candlewax from the candle’s the miner was using to light the tunnel he was working in. They were found with and old paper bag with the name of a mercantile store which operated between 1895 and 1898 in the town or Randsburg.  Their was also a gunny sack with the initials A.P.K. and Randsburg marked on it.  A.P.K. is through to be Adam P. Kuffel who was a partner in the mercantile store." As of this posting, the auction has hit 8000$US and we can only assume it will reach 5 digits soon.

This has to be seen to believe. Visit this eBay auction and view more shots of the denim after the jump.
