Our friends at Men’s Reviere give us a good look at the current collection from Canada’s Wings + Horns. We have been fans of the brand since well back in 2007 when their hoodies ruled the men’s market. Today, the line has grown beyond those bounds into a strong menswear collection that also features a few collaborative works with the like of Heritage Research (previewed at (capsule) Paris) and others. Buyers will find proper cold weather looks that much knits, parkas with Cone Mill U.S.A. denim. Proper garments for all men. More importantly, Wings + Horns is quality.

So have we decided on a fancy name for a sweatpants yet? There were a couple of good ones – walking trousers is a choice one – but nothing’s really stuck. Can we suggest ‘ruggedly handsome soft trousers’? It’s got all the makings of a name that’s popular right now – namely, the use of rugged and handsome – and lets you know that these are softer than your average trouser. The Wings + Horns design team delivers another great take on the classic chino. Although, released for the Autumn 2010 collection, this chinos still works for the spring and summer. The pants are made of 100% cotton with a “West Point Twill” and features the classic button fly and coin pocket. They are made in Japan and come in a slimmer cut than most chinos. Swap your denim out for these. Roden Gray has them.

We’re not fans of the smart casual things – the word or what it entails – but we do like this Wings & Horns. Yes, it’s smasual, but it’s still a great piece. It’d also be great to wear on a date, how can you fail to be your cool, calm, charming self when you’re wearing something so comfortable? (Superdenim)

Polo shirts are one of those pieces that never goes away, but has some image issues. Whether it’s being associated with chavs, hooligans or frat boys, it’s never the piece itself that looks  bad, just the folks wearing it (unlike, say Ed Hardy, which couldn’t be made to look good in any circumstance).  Most folks can only take plaid in small doses now, so having it on the collar is a smart choice. Looking sharp is great and all, but we all need to chill out sometimes. And when it’s time to do that, we’re heading straight to the sweatpants. We like these ones because they’re not as skin tight as several of the designer versions, would look good rolled and, frankly, won’t leave you – for lack of a better term – overexposed in the crotch area. If you’ve taken one thing from the menswear explosion that happened over the last few years, it should be that colour is nothing to fear, so this orange coat shouldn’t be too far outside of anyone’s comfort zone.
