EDWIN denim gets together with Yohji Yamamoto Inc. for the introduction of Yohji Jeans – a new collaborative line between the two Japanese brands. The signature Yohji line looks to be a production and distribution deal where the designer has licensed his name for the work. ”Naked” is the first collection from Yohji Jeans, “a metaphor for rebirth evoking the pureness of the line and the simplicity of the wardrobe.” Look for the collection to land in shops around June 2012.

Finally a fresh take on the chukka. YY comes through with these navy linen and wool mix upper sneakers that feature a reinforced heel and panel detailing that runs up the length of the heel. The three-hole lace-up finishes them well. LN-CC has it.

selectism - Yohji Yamamoto for the V&A

The “Boots” t-shirt is part of a range of goods Yohji Yamamoto has designed exclusively for the V&A in conjunction with current retrospective exhibition on the designer. The tee features a graphic print of Yohji Yamamoto’s beloved military boots, which he is seldom seen without. A key part of his aesthetic, both female and male models often wear them during runway presentations.

Snag one from the V&A Shop.

Wallpaper* takes a look at the first official autobiography of Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto. “Avant-garde fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto has never been one to favour the formulaic and the predictable. No surprises then, that his first official biography doesn’t take on a chronological narrative, but rather is a sweeping force of personal retrospect told through a blend of vivid flashbacks, ditties, poems and short fiction.”

Selectism - Smoking with Yohji

NY Mag sat down with Mr. Yamamoto for nothing more than a smoking session… and we like it. “Yohji Yamamoto is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. But perhaps there is a key. That key is smoking. Artist Jeremy Kost captures the famed designer doing just that in his latest screen test.”

Yohji Yamamoto Spring 2010

We turn to Fashonisto for some thoughts on the Spring 2010 collection from Yohji Yamamoto. “Falling victim to the recession, Yamamoto opted out of a runway show this season, instead having a showroom presentation. Shown was a restrained selection of suiting pieces that conform to the designer’s signature oversize aesthetic. All black and no fun with the exception of the mohair knits, it is unfortunate that the collection lacks pieces to capture the imagination. Showcasing the classics is fine and dandy, but hopefully come fall 2010, Yamamoto will bounce back with a fresh creative perspective.”
