This is more a ‘look, but don’t touch’ recommendation. While we feature plenty of expensive things on SL, this one is towards the top end of the scale. Basically, if you have to ask the cost, you can’t afford it. ‘Tis a very handsome jacket though. We’d recommend the ‘buy it, leave the tags on, wear it once and return it’ strategy. Not that we ever do that. (Matches)

HINT reports in on a forthcoming capsule collection from YSL for Atelier NYC. “Yes, you read that right. Yves Saint Laurent’s Stefano Pilati has collaborated with Atelier New York on a capsule men’s collection for spring. We’re told the 17 pieces, produced entirely in Italy, retain all the luxury you’d expect from YSL, but injected with the gothy goodness that is the Atelier aesthetic. The star of the collection is a “very” limited-edition bag, only six of which have been made. It doesn’t much more exclusive than this.”

Although Puma have collaborated with designers like Alexander McQueen in the past, the news (thanks to Men.Style via WWD) that they’ve collaborating with Yves Saint Laurent still seemed a pretty leftfield combination. YSL aren’t really known for their collaborations and, no offense to Puma, we had assumed that they’d start this route with a company that were more known for great designs. The shoe will be available exclusively online and there’s no word on price or release date.

A good collection of neckwear is as important as a good collection of footwear. Like the wristwatch, it is a defining factor in your day to day wardrobe in the world of business. While a wristwatch can be worn over and over and remains iconic on your arm – wearing the same necktie day in and day out can become boring. Colette has stocked up on two flavors of neckties from YSL for the Spring and Summer. One of these looks should work well for you. I’m shooting for the blue for a summer wedding in Italy – nice.

Dazed reports in with news of YSL’s latest merger of fashion, technology, and text. Yves Saint Laurent’s ”S/S 2009 Manifesto, photographed by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin and featuring Claudia Schiffer will be uploaded and distributed on charming heart shaped USB keys on the streets of Paris, New York, London, Milan, Tokyo and Hong Kong on the 14th of February.  Over half a million copies of the  twenty page Manifesto, accompanied by behind the scenes footage, will be disseminated this way, along with a cotton tote bag designed by Pilati to the first 2,000 passers by in each city.”

If you’re the type who likes to pay homage through clothing, you’ll love this Yves Saint Laurent T-shirt. The main print is of the glasses Yves Saint Laurent was known for wearing and, like most YSL pieces, is simple yet stylish. There’s also a small broken drawing pin graphic at the bottom of the tee – presumably to differentiate it from the inevitable copycat shirts that will emerge. Get it from Matches.

Yves Saint Laurent is the first retrospective exhibition of the designers fabled career. Produced by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, in conjunction with the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco, the exhibition covers the work over the course of four themes. Visitors learn about the design process from sketches. Explore the revolution of feminized men’s apparel. Interact with YSL’s vision of color. And, finally, discover the literary and artistic influences that spurred momentum. The Museum has a nice sub-site for the show that you can visit here. Otherwise, head to Montreal before September 28 to see it in person.

London’s Dover Street Market is currently getting in the Autumn/Winter 2008 collection from their designers. Also the store welcomes several new spaces by guest designers in the building.

This season Salvatore Ferragamo is in the house showcasing 80 years of archive pieces. Hussein Chalayan’s new collection can be purchased on the third floor (picture above), Lanvin has a new space and Yves Saint Laurent presents Edition 24, a space designed by theatrical set designer Michael Howells.
